01 - Place the dips in small bowls at the center of a large serving platter or tray to act as treasure spots.
02 - Use pretzel sticks to build winding paths radiating from the dips outward across the tray.
03 - Group and place sliced vegetables, fruits, and extras along the pretzel paths, arranging by color or type for a visually appealing display.
04 - Use small cookie cutters to shape the sliced cheddar and mozzarella into stars, hearts, animals, or other whimsical forms and position them along the paths or near the dips.
05 - Invite children to follow the pretzel stick trails, selecting snacks as they proceed toward the dips.
06 - Serve immediately and ensure younger children are supervised, especially with hard or small finger foods.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • Kids actually get excited about eating vegetables because they're following a pretzel stick path to treasure instead of being told to eat their veggies
  • It takes just 20 minutes to put together but feels like you've created something magical
  • You can customize it with whatever dips and produce you have on hand, making it endlessly flexible
  • It's the kind of snack that works for playdates, parties, or just a Tuesday afternoon when you need to make snack time fun
02 -
  • Prepare everything except the apple slices in advance, but add those last-minute with the lemon juice or they'll brown and lose their appeal—this one lesson learned the hard way at my first party
  • The secret that changed everything for me was cutting the cheese shapes beforehand and arranging them as I built the paths, rather than trying to figure out placement after—it makes the whole assembly feel intentional and less chaotic
03 -
  • Let kids help with the design—give them agency in the layout and they'll be twice as invested in eating what they've created
  • Use whatever dips your family loves, and don't feel bound by my three suggestions. A good cheese dip, a mild salsa, or even peanut butter can work beautifully on this map
