01 - 1.76 lb potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
02 - 1 medium onion, finely chopped
03 - 2 cloves garlic, minced

04 - 7 oz Gruyère cheese, grated
05 - 7 fl oz heavy cream
06 - 1 oz unsalted butter, for greasing and dotting
→ Meats
07 - 5.3 oz cooked ham, diced
→ Herbs & Seasonings
08 - 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
09 - 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
10 - 1/2 tsp salt, adjust to taste
11 - Pinch of nutmeg
→ Optional
12 - 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
# Directions:
01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly butter a medium baking dish approximately 8x12 inches.
02 - Arrange half of the sliced potatoes evenly in the dish. Layer half the onion, garlic, diced ham, and grated Gruyère atop. Season with salt, pepper, thyme, and a pinch of nutmeg.
03 - Add the remaining potatoes, onions, ham, and cheese in a second layer. Repeat seasoning as before.
04 - Pour the heavy cream evenly over the layered ingredients. Dot the surface with the remaining butter.
05 - Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbling.
06 - Allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
